Ajax finalise terms on Heitinga sale to Atletico Madrid

ROTTERDAM (Reuters) - Ajax Amsterdam have agreed terms with Atletico Madrid for the transfer of their Netherlands defender John Heitinga, the Dutch club said on Sunday.

"Ajax and Atletico Madrid have reached agreement about the transfer of John Heitinga to the Spanish club," Ajax said on their Web site (www.ajax.nl).

The 24-year-old, who has 33 caps, said in March he had agreed a five-year deal with the Primera Liga team but the clubs had yet to discuss payment terms for the transfer fee.

Heitinga, who came through the youth ranks, had a contract with Ajax through to July 1, 2011 that included a clause stating a maximum transfer fee of 10 million euros

($15.83 million).
