Apple secures iPhone trademark in Canada - report

TORONTO (Reuters) - Apple Inc has secured the legal right to use the trademarked name "iPhone" in Canada after reaching a settlement with Comwave Telecom Inc., the Globe and Mail newspaper reported on Thursday.

Comwave, a Toronto-based telecom provider that has used the iPhone name since 2004 to promote its Internet-based calling service, reached a deal with Apple on Wednesday night, the newspaper reported on its website.

Under the pact, Apple will have sole rights to the iPhone name in Canada, while Comwave has agreed to phase out its use by Nov. 9, the Globe reported.

Apple's iPhone 3G goes on sale in Canada on Friday.
