ICC to meet ICL representatives after Bangladesh crisis

MUMBAI (Reuters) - Cricket's governing body has agreed to meet representatives of the unofficial Indian Cricket League (ICL) which triggered a crisis in Bangladesh this month by scooping up 13 of the country's leading players.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a statement on Thursday that its president David Morgan had agreed to meet ICL representatives in London on a mutually convenient date.

"The ICL had previously written to the ICC requesting its approval and now it has asked for this meeting, to which we have agreed," Morgan said.

"All members of the ICC Board have been informed of this meeting and I will report back to those directors at the Board's next meeting, in Dubai on 14 and 15 October."

The ICL, which is backed by the promoters of India's biggest listed media firm Zee Telefilms Limited, is not recognised by the national governing bodies in the ICC.

Launched last year, the ICL has signed up many international players, including New Zealand fast bowler Shane Bond, even though those taking part attract an automatic ban from all forms of official cricket.
