Landslides kill nine in Nepal
KATHMANDU (Reuters) - Landslides triggered by torrential rains killed nine people and buried houses in three Nepal villages on Friday, officials said.
Nandi Keshar Tripathi, district administrator of Syangja in west Nepal, said five people were buried to death overnight when separate landslides swept two houses.
"We have rushed police to the site and details are awaited," he said.
Three people died in neighbouring Tanahu, while one was confirmed dead in a landslide in Dailekh, in far west Nepal, police said.
Landslides and flash floods are common in mostly mountainous Nepal during the annual rainy season which continues through September.
Authorities said nearly 50 people have been killed in rains in the Himalayan nation this year.
