FACTBOX: Security developments in Afghanistan

(Reuters) - Following are security developments in Afghanistan at 7:30 a.m. EDT (1130 GMT) on Saturday.

* PAKTIKA - Two U.S. soldiers were killed during a complex attack on a combat outpost in the Zirok district of southeastern Paktika province, a U.S. military spokeswoman said. Seven U.S. soldiers and two Afghan troops were wounded. The attack began with small-arms and indirect fire. Hamidullah Zwak, a spokesman for the provincial governor, said a suicide bomber driving a truck was shot dead before reaching the base but explosives in the truck went off during the shooting. The U.S. military called in air strikes, during which Zwak said about 30 Taliban insurgents were killed. The Interior Ministry said about 20 insurgents were killed in the air strikes.

* KANDAHAR - Seven Afghan policemen were killed and two wounded when their vehicle hit a roadside bomb in the Registan district of southern Kandahar province, the Interior Ministry said.

* JAWZJAN - A roadside bomb killed one civilian and wounded another in northern Jawzjan province, the Interior Ministry said.

* HELMAND - Two Afghan soldiers were killed and four wounded when their vehicle hit a roadside bomb in southern Helmand's Musa Qala district on Friday, the Defense Ministry said.

SOUTHERN AFGHANISTAN - A soldier in the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was killed by a roadside bomb in southern Afghanistan on Friday, ISAF said in a statement.

* GHAZNI - Afghan security forces killed two insurgents and detained two more during an operation in southwestern Ghazni province on Friday, the Defense Ministry said.

* PAKTIKA - Afghan and foreign troops detained three insurgents found carrying explosives in Paktika's Sharan district, the Defense Ministry said.  Continued...
