Sterling hits 7-month high vs currency basket
LONDON, June 22 (Reuters) - Sterling rose to a seven-month high against a basket of currencies on Monday after it hit its highest level versus the euro since December.
The UK currency's trade-weighted index rose to 84.5 =GBP, according to Bank of England data, its highest since November 2008, after the euro fell as low as 84.01 pence against the pound EURGBP=R.
Sterling's gains against the euro were helped as the single currency came under broad pressure on concerns about the European Central Bank's first ever one-year refinancing operation on Wednesday.
