US STOCKS-Flat day but stocks up for week, oil near $128

NEW YORK, May 16 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks finished little changed on Friday as surging oil prices lifted energy shares and offset data that showed consumer confidence sank to its lowest in 28 years.

U.S. crude oil futures climbed to yet another record, reaching $127.82 a barrel on Friday.

Based on the latest available data, the Dow Jones industrial average .DJI slipped 5.86 points, or 0.05 percent, to end unofficially at 12,986.80. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index .SPX rose 1.78 points, or 0.13 percent, to finish unofficially at 1,425.35. The Nasdaq Composite Index .IXIC fell 4.88 points, or 0.19 percent, to close unofficially at 2,528.85.

For the week, the Dow unofficially rose 1.9 percent, the S&P gained 2.7 percent and the Nasdaq rose 3.4 percent. (Reporting by Cal Mankowski; Editing by Jan Paschal)
