U.S. space shuttle lifts off on Hubble mission
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (Reuters) - The U.S. space shuttle Atlantis blasted off from its Florida launch pad on Monday on an 11-day mission to repair the Hubble Space Telescope, an important tool for scientists probing the origins of the universe.
Atlantis carried a seven-member crew that was scheduled to perform five spacewalks to install and repair instruments and replace positioning gyroscopes on the telescope, which orbits 350 miles (563 km) above Earth.
