ETA helicopter escape plot foiled -Spanish media
MADRID (Reuters) - A plot by ETA members to escape by helicopter from a prison in southern Spain has been foiled, media reported on Saturday, citing Interior Ministry sources.
Jorge Garcia Sertutxa, convicted of plotting to kill King Juan Carlos in 1995 and sentenced to 109 years in jail, is one member of the Basque rebel group suspected of planning to break out of the prison in Huelva and cross into Portugal.
At least two other prisoners are being interrogated about their involvement in the plot, the media said.
One of the prisoners' girlfriends and a lawyer from Bilbao are also reported to have been arrested.
No one at the Interior Ministry could be reached for comment.
Since 1968, ETA has killed more than 800 people in bombings and shootings as part of its four-decade campaign for an independent Basque homeland.
