EINDHOVEN, Netherlands (Reuters) - Tania Cagnotto and Anna Lindberg, daughters of champions, have upheld family traditions with diving gold medals at the European swimming championships.
Italy's Cagnotto, daughter of 1970 European three-metre springboard champion Giorgio, regained the women's platform crown on Friday night, while Sweden's Lindberg, daughter of 1972 Olympic platform champion Ulrika Knape, retained her one-metre springboard title on Thursday.
Cagnotto, European platform champion in 2004 and silver medallist in 2002, amassed 355.35 points from her five final dives to win ahead of Ukraine's Iuliia Prokopchuk (328.35) and Sweden's Elina Eggers (319.65).
Lindberg, who won both one-metre and three-metre springboard titles at the 2006 European championships, comes up against Cagnotto when she defends her three-metre title on Sunday.
Giorgio Cagnotto claimed silver on the three-metre springboard and bronze on the platform at the 1972 Olympics, followed by springboard silver in 1976 and springboard bronze in 1980.
His European tally ran to one gold, two silvers and a bronze on the springboard and a bronze on the platform.
Lindberg's father Mathz was also a diver. Knape followed 1972 Olympic platform gold and springboard silver with silver on the platform in 1976.
She was world platform champion and springboard silver medallist in 1973 and European platform and springboard champion in 1974.
