MADRID (Reuters) - Ana Ivanovic has pulled out of next week's Madrid Open due to a knee injury but the world number seven said on Friday she would be fit to defend her French Open title later this month.

Ivanovic said her right knee had been bothering her since Serbia's Fed Cup victory over Spain last month and a Munich specialist had advised her not to play competitively for a week.

"It's very frustrating because I feel that my overall fitness is at its peak and I have been practising very well," Ivanovic said in a statement released by organisers at the clay event in the Spanish capital.
