Australian Evans wins opening stage of Dauphine Libere

NANCY, France (Reuters) - Australian Cadel Evans won stage one of the Dauphine Libere, a 12.1 kilometre individual time trial starting and finishing in Nancy on Sunday.

Second behind the Silence-Lotto rider was Spaniard Alberto Contador and last year's overall winner, Alejandro Valverde of Spain, finished third.

Second in last year's Dauphine Libere, Evans will now wear the overall leader's jersey for the second stage from Nancy to Dijon.

The Dauphine Libere finishes on June 14 in Grenoble.
