Automatic Data Processing, Inc. (ADP), incorporated on June 12, 1961, is a provider of human capital management (HCM) solutions and business process outsourcing. The Company operates through two segments: Employer Services and Professional Employer Organization (PEO) Services. Employer Services' HCM solutions are offered in approximately 100 countries. The material markets for its HCM solutions are the United States, Canada and Europe. In addition, it offers wage and tax collection, and remittance services in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, Australia, India and China. PEO Services offers services in the United States.
The Company's Employer Services segment offers a range of business outsourcing and technology-enabled HCM solutions. These offerings include payroll services, benefits administration, recruiting and talent management, human resources (HR) management, time and attendance management, insurance services, retirement services, and payment and compliance solutions. Employer Services serves clients ranging from small businesses to large enterprises with multinational operations.
ADP provides a range of solutions through a software and service-based delivery model, which businesses of various sizes can use to recruit, staff, pay, manage and retain employees. It serves approximately 500,000 clients via ADP's software as a service (SaaS) offerings, commonly referred to as the cloud. Through HR business process outsourcing (BPO) market, it also offers outsourcing solutions that enable its clients to outsource their HR, time and attendance management, payroll and benefits administration functions to ADP. In addition, its mobile applications enable businesses to process their payroll, and give five million of its clients' employees access to their HR information through various mobile device platforms, around the world and in approximately 30 languages. ADP has also opened access to developers and system integrators through certain of its strategic platforms' application programming interface libraries. This access enables the exchange of data housed in ADP's databases in order to create a unified HCM ecosystem informed by a single repository of workforce data.
The Company's suite of HCM products offers solutions to assist employers of various sizes in different stages of the employment cycle from recruitment to retirement, including RUN Powered by ADP, ADP Workforce Now, ADP Vantage HCM, and ADP GlobalView and DP Streamline. Outside the United States, ADP offers HCM solutions on local, country-specific platforms. These suites of services offer various combinations of payroll, human resources management, time and attendance management, and talent management, depending on the country in which the solution is provided.
ADP provides payroll services to employers of various sizes, including the preparation of employee paychecks, pay statements, supporting journals, summaries and management reports. ADP provides employers with a range of payroll options, ranging from manually calling in their payroll requirements to its specialists; entering their payroll data online with an Internet-based solution or through a mobile device, or outsourcing their entire payroll process to ADP. ADP also enables its clients to interface their enterprise resource planning (ERP) applications with ADP's outsourced payroll services. Employers can choose a range of payroll payment options ranging from professionally printed checks to ADP's electronic wage payment and, in the United States, payroll card solutions.
ADP prepares and files federal, state and local payroll tax returns, quarterly and annual Social Security and Medicare, and federal, state and local income tax withholding reports on its clients' behalf in the United States, and prepares and files similar reports internationally on behalf of its clients. In addition, as part of its payroll services globally, ADP supplies year-end regulatory and legislative tax statements, and other forms to its clients' employees. For those clients who choose to process payroll in-house, in the United States, ADP also delivers its payment and compliance solutions. The Company's payment and compliance solutions include employment tax services, tax credit, wage garnishment, unemployment claims, wage payment and pay card, ADP SmartCompliance and ADP health compliance.
Professional Employer Organization (PEO) Services
ADP TotalSource, ADP's PEO business, offers small and mid-sized businesses HR outsourcing solution through a co-employment model. As a PEO, ADP TotalSource provides HR management services. ADP TotalSource includes HR management and employee benefits functions, including HR administration, employee benefits and employer liability management, into a single-source solution, including HR administration, employee benefits and employer liability management. ADP TotalSource has approximately 63 offices located in over 31 states and serves approximately 8,700 clients with employment administration outsourcing solutions through a co-employment relationship in which employees who work at a client's location are co-employed by the Company and the client.
ADP TotalSource offers a range of HR administration services, such as employee recruitment and selection; payroll and tax administration; time and attendance management; benefits administration; employee training and development; online HR management tools, and employee leave administration. Through the co-employment model, ADP TotalSource provides eligible worksite employees with access to group health, dental and vision coverage; a 401(k) retirement savings plan; health savings accounts; spending accounts; group term life and disability coverage, and an employee assistance program. ADP TotalSource helps clients manage and limit employment related risks and related costs by providing a workers' compensation program, unemployment claims management, safety compliance guidance and access to safety training, access to employment practices liability insurance and guidance on compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and regulations.
