Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) is an integrated electric utility company engaged in the transmission and distribution of electricity in Korea. During the year ended December 31, 2008, the Company sold 385 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity. Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. is the wholly owned nuclear and hydroelectric power generation subsidiary. KEPCO also wholly own its five non-nuclear generation subsidiaries, Korea South-East Power Co., Ltd, Korea Midland Power Co., Ltd., Korea Western Power Co., Ltd., Korea Southern Power Co., Ltd., and Korea East-West Power Co., Ltd., each of which is incorporated in Korea. The Company operates in three segments: transmission and distribution, power generation and all other. The transmission and distribution segment consists of operations related to the transmission, distribution and sale to end-users of electricity. The power generation segment consists of operations related to the generation of electricity.
BRIEF: For the fiscal year ended 31 December 2008, Korea Electric Power Corporation's revenues increased 8% to W31.560T. Net loss totaled W3.819T vs. an income of W1.835T. Revenues reflect an increase in sale of electricity and higher other operating revenue. Net loss reflects an increase in power generation, transmission & distribution cost, higher other operating cost, a decrease in interest income and a rise in interest expenses.
