Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. is a Japan-based company mainly engaged in the manufacture of chemicals. The Company operates in four business segments. The Performance Materials segment manufactures and sells automotive and industrial materials, packaging and functional materials, living and energy materials, electronic and information materials, as well as urethane resin raw materials. The Advanced Chemicals segment manufactures and sells precision chemicals and agricultural chemicals. The Basic Chemicals segment manufactures and sells basic materials such as ethylene and propylene, phenol, synthetic textile materials, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resins and industrial chemicals, as well as polyethylene and polypropylenes, among others. The Others segment is engaged in the manufacture and sale of fluorine resins and others, as well as other related business. The Company has 76 subsidiaries and 26 associated companies.

BRIEF: For the six months ended 30 September 2009, Mitsui Chemicals, Inc.'s revenues fell 39% to Y549.87B. The Company's net loss totaled Y31.36B, vs. an income of Y7.64B. Revenues reflect lower sales especially from the functional material and the basic chemicals segments.
