Hitachi Maxell, Ltd. is a Japan-based company engaged in the manufacture and sale of information media, batteries, materials and devices. The Company has three business segments. The Information Media segment manufactures and sells computer tapes, videotapes for broadcasting, Blu-ray discs (BDs), digital versatile discs (DVDs), compact discs (CDs), audiotapes and videotapes. The Battery segment manufactures and sells lithium ion batteries, coin-shape lithium secondary batteries, silver oxide batteries, lithium primary batteries and alkaline dry cells. The Material Device and Electrical Appliance segment manufactures and sells optical components, functional materials, adhesive tapes, radio-frequency identification (RFID) systems, small electrical equipments, electroformed and precision components, as well as mold products and synthetic resin molded components. On October 1, 2009, the Company merged with its subsidiary, Maxell Hokuriku Seiki Co., Ltd.

BRIEF: For the six months ended 30 September 2009, Hitachi Maxell, Ltd.'s revenues decreased 28% to Y70.35B. The Company's net loss decreased 39% to Y574M. Revenues reflect lower sales especially from the information media business segment. Net loss benefits from a lower percentage of SG&A expenses, the absence of Y1.96B impairment losses on assets, and decreased losses on valuation of long-term investment in securities.
