France Telecom S.A. (France Telecom) provides consumers, businesses and other telecommunications operators with a wide range of services including fixed telephony and mobile telecommunications, data transmission, Internet and multimedia, and other value-added services. The Company operates in three segments: the Personal Communication Services (PCS), the Home Communication Services (HCS) and the Enterprise Communication Service (ECS). In October 2008, Pyramid Saimira Group-owned direct-to-home (DTH) company, Spize TV, acquired France Telecom's European DTH operations called WorldTV Europe. In March 2008, France Telecom acquired a 100% stake in Cityvox, a city-guide Website.
BRIEF: For the six months ended 30 June 2009, France Telecom SA's total revenue decreased 3% to EUR25.75B. Net income for the period decreased 4% to EUR2.56B. Total revenue reflects a decrease in demand for the Company's products and services mainly in the Residential Communication Services business segment as well as unfavorable markets conditions. Net income for the period was offset by decreased gross and operating margins.
