Fortum Oyj is a Finland-based energy company. The Company's principal activities include the generation, distribution and sale of electricity and heat, as well as the operation and maintenance of power plants. Its operations are divided into five segments. The Power Generation segment offers the electricity it generates, and operation and maintenance to power and heat asset owners. The Heat segment focuses on combined heat and power production (CHP), district heating and cooling and energy outsourcing services to industries and private customers. The Distribution segment is responsible for the Company’s distribution and regional network transmissions. The Markets segment focuses on retail sales to private and business customers, as well as to other electricity retailers. The Russia segment offers power and heat generation and sales in Russia. The Company’s main markets comprise the Nordic countries, the Baltic Rim area and Russia.
BRIEF: For the nine months ended 30 September 2009, Fortum Oyj's total revenue decreased 5% to EUR3.89B. Net profit for the period decreased 7% to EUR906M. Total revenue reflects increased sales in the Russian segment, due to market liberalization, as well as increased other income. Net profit for the period was suffered from a loss from share of associates as well as increased other financial expenses.
