GfK SE, formerly GfK AG, is an international provider of market research services, which operates through three main divisions. Custom Research offers a range of services which include tests and studies, in particular, for product and pricing policy, brand management, communications, distribution and customer loyalty. Its portfolio comprises continually collected data, as well as ad hoc studies. Retail and Technology provides information and consulting services, based on retail data from continuous surveys and analyses of sales of technical consumer goods and services in the retail sector. Media delivers information services on range, intensity and nature of media usage and acceptance. The services encompass continuous, as well as one-off studies and analyses. As of December 31, 2008, GfK SE operated 136 subsidiaries in more than 100 countries worldwide.
BRIEF: For the nine months ended 30 September 2009, GfK SE's sales decreased 5% to EUR840.2M. Net income for the period decreased 48% to EUR24M. Sales reflect a decrease in demand for the Company's products and services in the Custom Research, the Media and the Other business segments. Net income for the period suffered from decreased gross profit margins as well as higher selling and general administrative expenses.
