HudBay Minerals Inc. (HudBay) is a Canadian integrated mining company. The Company principally focused on the discovery, production and marketing of base metals. Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Co., Limited (HBMS) and HMI Nickel Inc. (HMI Nickel) are the wholly owned subsidiaries of HudBay. HudBay's exploration properties include approximately 400,000 hectares in the prolific Flin Flon Greenstone Belt of Manitoba and Saskatchewan, as well as approximately 20,000 hectares in the Balmat district of New York state. HudBay owns the Tom/Jason zinc/lead/silver mineral deposit in the Yukon, zinc exploration properties in southwestern Ontario and copper exploration properties in Chile. The Company has also optioned mineral properties to seven other exploration companies as a means to leverage its expenditures in the Flin Flon Greenstone Belt. The Company’s Balmat mine is located in upper New York State. On August 26, 2008, the Company acquired HMI Nickel.
BRIEF: For the six months ended 30 June 2009, HudBay Minerals Inc.'s revenues decreased 35% to C$359.4M. Net income increased 56% to C$85.5M. Revenues reflect a decrease in sales from Balmat and other segments. Net income reflects better operating margin, lower depreciation & amortization expenses, decreased stock based compensation expenses, lower exploration expenses and the presence of gain on sale of interest in Lundin.
