Hong Leong Bank Berhad (HLB) is engaged in commercial banking business and in the provision of related services. The Company operates in five business segments: personal financial services, corporate and commercial banking, treasury, takaful and overseas associate. Personal financial services focus on servicing individual customers and small businesses. Corporate and commercial banking focuses on corporate customers. Treasury refers to the Company’s treasury and capital market operations, and includes foreign exchange, money market operations, as well as investments. Takaful refers to the business of underwriting family takaful, including investment-linked business and all classes of general takaful businesses. Overseas associate refers to Bank of Chengdu Co., Ltd, which is a commercial bank engaged in corporate, commercial and consumer banking businesses. In September 2009, the Company disposed its 55% interest in Hong Leong Tokio Marine Takaful Berhad.

BRIEF: For the three months ended 30 September 2009, Hong Leong Bank Berhad's interest income fell 24% to RM624.9M. Net interest income after loan loss provision fell 16% to RM291.6M. Net income fell 3% to RM234.2M. Net interest income reflects a decrease in income from loans, advances & financing, significant decrease in money at call & deposit. Net income was partially offset by the absence of impairment loss and decreased other operating expenses.
