KBC Groep NV is a Belgium-based company engaged in banking, insurance and wealth management for private banking clients, retail customers and medium-sized enterprises. It has expertise in asset management and the financial markets. The Company’s activity is composed of five divisions: the Belgium, the Central & Eastern Europe and Russia (CEER), the Merchant Banking, the European Private Banking, and the Shared Services & Operations business units. Each of these units has its own management committee and oversees both the banking and the insurance activities. The Company is active in Belgium and in other selected countries, including Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia and Russia. KBC Groep NV also operates to a less extent in the United States and in Southeast Asia. The Company has three subsidiaries: KBC Bank, KBC Insurance and KBL European Private Bankers.

BRIEF: For the nine months ended 30 September 2009, KBC Groep NV's interest income decreased 28% to EUR9.35B. Net interest income after loan loss provision decreased 5% to EUR3.26B. Net loss totaled EUR2.77B, vs. a profit of EUR141M. Interest income reflects a decrease in volume of credits granted to clients. Net loss reflects significant losses from financial instruments as well as lower fee and commission income.
