Malaysian Airline System Berhad is engaged in the business of air transportation and the provision of related services. The Company operates in two business segments: Airline operation, which is engaged in the operation of aircraft for passenger, and Cargo services, which is engaged in the operation of aircraft for cargo and mail services. The Company is also engaged in hotel operations, catering, engineering, computerized reservation services, coach transportation, trucking and warehousing services, retailing of goods, terminal charges, and tour and travel-related activities. The Company connects 40,000 passengers daily to some 80 destinations worldwide across six continents. Its subsidiaries include Abacus Distribution Systems (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., FlyFirefly Sdn. Bhd and Kelip-Kelip Labuan Limited. In May 2009, the Company acquired an offshore company, Kelip-kelip II Cayman Limited. In May 2009, the Company incorporated Kelip-Kelip II Labuan Limited.
BRIEF: For the six months ended 30 June 2009, Malaysian Airline System Berhad's revenues decreased 29% RM5.2B. Net income increased 13% to RM180.1M. Revenues reflects a decrease in income due to lower operating revenue in line with the declining trend in global travel and cargo movements resulting from the current economic downturn. Net income was offset by the presence of derivative gain and lower income tax expenses.
