Malayan Banking Berhad (the Bank) is engaged in the business of banking and finance. The Company's subsidiaries are principally engaged in the businesses of banking and finance, Islamic banking, investment banking, including stock broking, general and life insurance, general and family takaful, trustee and nominee services, asset management and venture capital. The Company operates in four segments: Banking, Investment Banking, Insurance and Takaful, and Others. It has operations in Indonesia, Pakistan and Vietnam, and also has presence in Singapore, the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Papua New Guinea, Hong Kong SAR, People’s Republic of China, Bahrain, Uzbekistan, the United Kingdom and the United States. During the fiscal year ended June 30, 2009, (fiscal 2009), the Bank completed the acquisitions of Bank Internasional Indonesia (BII), MCB Bank Limited (MCB Bank) of Pakistan and An Binh Commercial Joint Stock Bank (ABBank), Pakistan and Vietnam respectively.

BRIEF: For the three months ended 30 September 2009, Malayan Banking Berhad's interest income increased 6% to RM2.73B. Net interest income after LLP increased 12% to RM1.21B. Net income increased 54% to RM881.8M. Net interest income reflects an increase in interest income, lower floating rate certificate deposits and lower deposits & placements of banks expenses. Net income also reflects an increase in share of associates and higher operating profits.
