Manila Electric Company (Meralco) is principally engaged in the distribution of electricity covering 50 franchise areas in Metro Manila and in six surrounding provinces. The Company is organized in three segments: the power distribution segment, which is involved in the distribution and supply of electricity covering franchise areas in the Luzon region; the real estate segment, which is involved in real estate development and leasing, and the services segment, which is involved principally in engineering, construction and consulting services, e-transaction services and insurance. The Company’s wholly owned subsidiaries include Corporate Information Solutions, Inc., Meralco Energy, Inc., e-Meralco Ventures, Inc., Asian Center for Energy Management, Meralco Financial Services Corporation, Republic Surety and Insurance Co., Lighthouse Overseas Insurance Company Limited and Rockwell Land Corporation.

BRIEF: For the six months ended 30 June 2009 , Manila Electric Company's revenues decreased 1% to PP94.5B. Net income increased 19% to PP3.16B. Revenues reflect a decrease in sales from Real Estate segment and lower income from Electricity. Net income reflects a decrease in interest & other financial expensess, lower operations & maintenance expenses, a decrease in purchased power and lower foreign exchange losses-net.
