Infectious disease products consist of therapeutic agents for the treatment of infection sold primarily to drug wholesalers and retailers, hospitals and government agencies.
BRIEF: For the nine months ended 30 September 2009, Merck & Co., Inc.'s revenues fell 3% to $17.33B. Net income applicto common rose 4% to $6.39B. Revenues reflect a decrease in the demand of Pharmaceutical segment and lower Vaccines & Infectious Diseases segments. Net income was offset by a decrease in marketing & administrative expense, lower restructuring costs, an increase in equity income from affiliates and a rise in other (income) expense.
