Orient-Express Hotels Ltd. (OEH) is a hotel and leisure group focused on the luxury end of the leisure market. The Company owns and/or invests in 51 properties consisting of 41 individual deluxe hotels, two restaurants, six tourist trains and two river cruise businesses. These are located in 25 countries worldwide. Hotels and restaurants represent the largest segment of OEH’s business, contributing 90% of revenue during the year ended December 31, 2008. Tourist trains and cruises accounted for 12% of revenue during 2008. Property development activities accounted for the remaining revenue. The Company’s worldwide portfolio of hotels consists of 3,897 individual guest rooms and multiple-room suites, each known as a key. Approximately 70% of OEH’s customers are leisure travelers, with approximately 28% of customers in 2008 originating from North America, 53% from Europe and the remaining 13% from elsewhere in the world.
BRIEF: For the six months ended 30 June 2009, Orient-Express Hotels Ltd.'s revenues fell 23% to $210.9M. Net loss from continuing operations totaled $15.2M vs. an income of $19.8M. Revenues reflect a decrease in revenues from Hotel management/part ownership interests and higher loss from Real estate segment. Net loss reflects the presence of loss from foreign currency vs. an income and the presence of impairment of goodwill.
