Orascom Telecom Holding S.A.E. (Orascom Telecom or OHI) is a mobile telecommunications company. Orascom Telecom is a network operator in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. Orascom Telecom operates global system for mobile communications (GSM) networks in Algeria (OTA), Pakistan (Mobilink), Egypt (Mobinil), Tunisia (Tunisiana), Bangladesh (Banglalink) and North Korea (Koryolink). Through its subsidiary Telecel Globe, OTH also operates in Burundi, the Central African Republic, Namibia and Zimbabwe. Orascom Telecom had over 80 million subscribers as of March 31, 2009. In January 2009, the Company’s subsidiary, Telecel Globe, acquired the mobile telecommunications operator Cell One in Namibia. In January 2009, it also announced the sale of 100% of M-link to TLC SERVIZI S.p.A., a wholly owned subsidiary of Wind Telecomunicazioni S.p.A.
BRIEF: For the six months ended 30 June 2009, Orascom Telecom Holdings' total revenue decreased 4% to EGP13.95B. Net income from continuing operations decreased 26% to EGP1.27B. Total revenue reflects a decrease in demand for the Company's products and services. Net income from continuing operations suffered from an increase in financial expenses, depreciation and amortization as well as higher losses from foreign exchange.
