Polyus Zoloto OAO (Polyus Gold OJSC) is a Russia-based company, which is involved in the mining and production of gold. It was formed in March 2006, as a result of the spin-off of MMC Norilsk Nickel’s gold mining assets. The Company’s operating mines and exploration projects are located in such gold mining regions of Russia: the Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Magadan, Amur Regions and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutiya). The Company has three wholly owned subsidiaries Polyus ZAO, Polyus Geologorazvedka OAO and ChOP Polyus Shchit OOO.

BRIEF: For the six months ended 30 June 2009, Polyus Zoloto OAO's total revenue decreased 13% to $452M. Net income for the period decreased 7% to $150.3M. Total revenue reflects decreased demand for the Company's products in other than gold sales activity as well as unfavorable market conditions. Net income was partially offset by lower selling, general and administrative expenses as well as decreased research and exploration expenses.
