Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) is engaged in the operation and provision of telecommunication systems and services, and investment holding. The principal operations of SingTel are in Singapore and Australia. The Company has subsidiaries that are engaged in activities, such as the provision of mobile phone, Internet, information technology (IT) and consultancy services, and the sale of telecommunications equipment. SingTel also has interests in several other communications companies outside Singapore, including AIS in Thailand, Bharti in India, Globe in the Philippines, Pacific Bangladesh Telecom in Bangladesh and Telkomsel in Indonesia. In October 2009, Singapore Telecommunications announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, SCS Computer Systems Pte Ltd., purchased from Azalea Technology Investments, Inc. (Azalea), BPI Computer Systems Corporation, Mitsubishi Corporation and a 21% interest in Ayala Systems Technology, Inc.
BRIEF: For the six months ended 30 September 2009, Singapore Telecommunications Limited's revenues increased 4% to SP$7.95B. Net income increased 9% to SP$1.90B. Revenues reflect higher revenue generated from Singapore & Australia regions and higher income from warless division. Net income also reflects an increase in share of results of associate and joint venture companies, lower depreciation charges and a decrease in finance costs.
