voestalpine AG is an Austria-based producer and distributor of steel and steel products. It operates worldwide through a number of subsidiaries grouped in five business divisions. The Steel division produces and processes flat steel products for the automotive, household appliance and construction industries. The Railway systems division produces rails and switches, wire rod and drawn wire, seamless tubes and semi-finished steel products. The Automotive division specializes in the processing of steel as well as combining steel with other materials to form parts and components for automotive bodies and safety technology. The Profilform division produces tailored tubes and sections, as well as storage technology products and logistics solutions. The Special Steel division provides tool steel, bimetallic strips, cutting and creasing rules, rule die steel, blades for gas and steam turbines, as well as high-speed steel and welding materials.

BRIEF: For the six months ended 30 September 2009, voestalpine AG's revenue decreased 36% to EUR4.14B. Net loss from continuing operations totaled EUR56.2M, vs. a profit of EUR478.4M. Revenue reflects a decrease in demand for the Company's products and services in all of the Company's business divisions. Net loss from continuing operations reflects decreased gross profit margins as well as lower income from associated companies.
