Apr 27 - Time magazine's 100 most influential people in the world are honored in New York. Alicia Powell reports.

Celebrities and politicians merged on the red carpet for Time magazines 100 most influential gala in New York. World leaders like U.S. President Barack Obama and UK Prime Minister David Cameron share space on the list with actors Mark Wahlberg, Blake Lively and singer Sting. Oprah Winfrey's best friend Gayle King hit the red carpet with Newark, New Jersey mayor Cory Booker who is making his debut on the list. SOUNDBITE: Cory Booker, mayor of Newark, New Jersey, saying (English): "I'm here not because of me, but because of Newark, New Jersey which is just starting to really capture the American imagination. About a city that for too long was disrespected and now is starting to challenge people's you know moral imagination about what's possible in American cities." Booker laughed when asked if he saw a presidential run in his future. SOUNDBITE: Cory Booker, mayor of Newark, New Jersey, saying (English): "God knows, I've learned that the best way to make God laugh is to make plans for yourself." One man who isn't shy about talking about his potential run for president is Donald Trump. U.S. congresswoman and honoree Michelle Bachmann from Minnesota's 6th Congressional District, said she is excited about the possibility of a Trump candidacy. SOUNDBITE: Michelle Bachmann, U.S. congresswoman from Minnesota's 6th Congressional District, saying (English): "I like Donald Trump, I met him last week for the first time and I think he's an interesting person, he's a colorful person and I think he's giving a message right now that a lot of Americans appreciate - he's being very tough and that's what people want to see and I think in contrast to the President, Donald Trump looks very strong compared to President Obama and I think that that's what people really appreciate." The annual Time 100 list is selected by Time magazine editors, writers and past 100 honorees. Alicia Powell, Reuters.
