+++ PLEASE NOTE: THIS EDIT CONTAINS CONVERTED 4:3 MATERIAL+++ After 25 years of marriage Arnold Schwarzenegger and his wife Maria Shriver have separated. The Austrian born film star turned politician and his journalist wife said the split was "amicable". They announced it in a joint statement on Monday: "This has been a time of great personal and professional transition for each of us. After a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion and prayer, we came to this decision together." The couple who first met at a charity event back in 1977 did not indicate whether they would seek a divorce, but said they were living separately "while we work on the future of our relationship." It is understood that Shriver, who is a member of the Kennedy clan, has already moved out of their $11.9 million dollar Brentwood home in LA. They insist they are committed to continue looking after their four children together. In the statement the two described them as "the light and the center of both of our lives". The couple considers the situation a "private matter" and have asked the media and public "for compassion and respect." The surprise statement comes four months after Schwarzenegger left office in January after serving two terms as governor of California. Schwarzenegger said in February that he was ready to make movies again and announced recently that he is developing a television show and comic book based on his political nickname "The Governator." According to an industry source Schwarzenegger is likely to star in a new "Terminator" movie, reprising his most famous screen role. Kathi Urban, Reuters.
