June 13 - The president of Somalia confirms the death of a top African al Aqeda operative, Fazul Abdullah Mohammed. Julie Noce reports.

EDIT CONTAINS 4:3 MATERIAL Somali President Sheikh Sarif Ahmed on Sunday confirmed the death of Africa's most wanted al Qaeda, Fazul Abdullah Mohammed. He told reporters that the U.S. confirmed the authenticity of documents including Fazul's family photos, and a condolence letter after Bin Laden's death. Mohammed and his driver were killed last Tuesday during a shootout in Mogadishu. Mohammed was the head of al Qaeda in east Africa and had evaded capture for over a decade after being accused of playing a lead role in the 1998 U.S. embassy attacks in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam, which killed 240 people. Washington says several Mohammed's death is significant blow to al Qaeda and it's allies. Julie Noce, Reuters
