EDIT CONTAINS 4:3 MATERIAL Argentina's current president, Christina Fernandez, has announced her bid for re-election in the upcoming presidential contest. Speaking to a group of supporters at the Buenos Aires government house, Fernandez said her commitment to the country is unwavering. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) FERNANDEZ "We will continue working with the commitment that we have constructed and reconstructed this country, which deserves the work and the effort of all Argentines. My commitment is undeniable and irrevocable." Fernandez came to power four years ago after her husband Nestor Kirchner served one term in office from 2003-2007. Kirchner, known for his leftist initiatives, died last October. Both Kirchner and Fernandez are widely popular in Argentina... especially amongst the working class. Outside the government house, Fernandez' supporters welcomed her announcement with obvious enthusiasm. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) FERNANDEZ SUPPORTER, WALTER GOMEZ, SAYING: "And I think Argentines deserve this model for the country. It is what we all want. And living in democracy and deepening the project of social inclusion, and what all us Argentines deserve." Current polls show Fernandez could easily win the October 23rd vote. Julie Noce, Reuters
