Protesters across Syria continue calling for President Bashar al-Assad to step down. State media said Assad will give an interview to Syrian television on Sunday to address the uprising. International pressure has increased on the Syrian leader in recent days. The U.S. and Europe hope new sanctions will encourage him to end the crackdown which the UN says has killed around 2,000 civilians. Footage posted on a social media website shows hundreds chanting anti-government slogans in the streets in Homs, Hama and Museirfe. Another video apparently shows soldiers on the streets of Damascus. Reuters can not independently verify the content of these videos. A United Nations team arrived in Syria on Saturday to assess humanitarian needs. Assad told UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon last week that all military and police operations had ceased, but activists say dozens have been killed since then. Lily Grimes, Reuters
