Thousands of people took to the streets in protest against the Bahraini government in the Shi'ite village of Muqasha. A report that slammed the government for use of systematic torture to crush pro-democracy protests has put pressure on the Gulf Arab state to take steps towards political reform. Details from testimonies from unidentified detainees, whom the inquiry team were given access to, included those of sexual abuse, lost eyes, threat of attack by dogs, electrocution and beatings with hoses. The Sunni-dominated government says it has formed a working group to study the report, which calls for an examination of Shi'ite political, economic and social grievances. So far the opposition parties say no one has contacted them yet. Marie-Claire Fennessy, Reuters
