July 3 - Mexican president-elect Enrique Pena Nieto vows to keep up the fight against organised crime after electoral officials confirm the incoming leader's victory. Sarah Charlton reports.

Mexico's president-elect pledges to improve the lives of citizens after victory in the country's presidential election. At a packed news conference in Mexico City, Enrique Pena Nieto outlined a number of ambitious reforms focusing on energy, labour and tax. He said he hopes to strike deals with opponents to help shepherd in changes before taking office in December. SOUNDBITE: MEXICAN PRESIDENT-ELECT ENRIQUE PENA NIETO, SAYING (Spanish): "The electoral authorities are confirming the results from yesterday's quick count in which it is clear that the majority of our country's citizens chose the option that I lead, that I represent. I have made a commitment that, in respect to plurality and diversity in our democratic society, we now work to move our country towards better conditions." The president-elect talked up ties with the U.S., confirming he had spoken to U.S. President Barack Obama. He also vowed to continue taking on powerful criminal gangs in a country blighted by drug-related violence. SOUNDBITE: MEXICAN PRESIDENT-ELECT ENRIQUE PENA NIETO, SAYING (Spanish): "I reiterate my commitment to combat organised crime to make the message very clear. There will not be a truce or pact and the crackdown on organised crime will continue with results that are balanced and strategic and establish a strategy that will allow Mexicans to feel better, and above all else, accredit the effectiveness of the security strategy." Officials have confirmed that Pena Nieto won Sunday's ballot with around 38 percent of the vote. The victory returns the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) to power after 12 years in opposition.
