July 6 - Security forces in Togo's capital Lome fire tear gas to disperse several hundred protesters who gathered in front of the French embassy. Sarah Charlton reports.

Security forces fire tear gas, trying to disperse protesters in Togo's capital. Demonstrators gathered in front of the French embassy after a rally earlier in the day was halted. The former French administered territory has been rocked by a series of violent protests. An opposition-led campaign is seeking to reverse laws adopted by a parliament dominated by the ruling party. Campaigners are against proposed changes to voting rules. SOUNDBITE: PATRICK LAWSON, "SAVE TOGO" CAMPAIGN COORDINATOR, SAYING (French): "We want fully transparent elections, after proper consultations which are held in conditions of equality and transparency. That's all that we ask for." Togo's president and his allies control more than 50 percent of parliament seats. The opposition has demanded that constituencies are redrawn to redress imbalances.
