July 12 - Frozen lunches help cool Israel's overheated zoo animals. Tara Cleary reports.

The bear necessities for a heat wave in an Israeli zoo. Animals at the Ramat Gan Safari zoo were treated to fruit and fish icicles. And the zoo's curator, Amelia Turkel, says the food popsicles help the animals cool their core body temperature. SOUNDBITE: Amelia Turkel, safari zoo curator, saying (English): "Not only do they have fun, but it really cools them off, because by getting these low temperatures into their mouths it also reaches the parts of the body physiologically which deal with the perception of heat." And once the heat subsides, the animals may feel fresher, but their meals won't be as cool. Tara Cleary, Reuters.
