PLEASE NOTE: THIS EDIT CONTAINS CONVERTED 4:3 MATERIAL Looking a lot like a space center, thousands of goldfish bowls lined up for judgment in China. And one lucky owner and their fish will swim away with the title of "World Goldfish Queen". The species comes in all shapes and sizes, which makes winner selection tricky, says judge, Ye Qichang. SOUNDBITE: Ye Qichang, Judge of the first International Goldfish Championship, saying (Mandarin): "We judge goldfish mainly by five criteria: the breed, we look at body shape, then there's swimming gesture, and color is very important, plus the fish's overall impression." But not even 40-plus years of experience could prepare Ye for the mother of all goldfish, a whopper weighing 1.75 kilograms or almost 4.0 pounds. SOUNDBITE: Ye Qichang, Judge of the first International Goldfish Championship, saying (Mandarin): "Not all goldfish can grow this big. Many factors such as breed and breeding method may affect their size. A goldfish cannot grow into that size if it suffers any hardship or major illness during the breeding. So it is a very rare one." The goldfish champion will be announced on Saturday, September 22nd.
