A welcome sight for residents in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Government soldiers are on the ground days after rebels pulled out of the region. Businesses have reopened and life is beginning to return to normal. (SOUNDBITE) (Kiswahili) SAKE RESIDENT, PATRICK NAMIGAMBE, SAYING: "We are happy to see soldiers in town because we know they will protect us, and they would not harass us because they are Congolese like us." The rebels pulled out after a deal engineered by Uganda. Rebels had captured Goma, which lies at the heart of Congo's eastern borderlands. The region has suffered nearly two decades of conflict stoked by ethnic tensions and the region's minerals.
