EDITORS PLEASE NOTE: THIS EDIT CONTAINS CONVERTED 4:3 MATERIAL (ROUGH CUT ONLY - NO REPORTER NARRATION) A flotilla belonging to China's East China Sea fleet patrolled waters near islands in the East China Sea also claimed by Japan on Monday (December 10) after a 15-day routine military training session in the West Pacific Ocean. The fleet mainly consisted of guided missile destroyers such as the Ningbo, Hangzhou, Ma'anshan and Zhoushan. The surveillance run marked the first time China has confirmed the conduct of naval operations in waters near the disputed islands, called Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China, on the very same day they took place, CCTV said. This is is not the first time a Chinese naval fleet has patrolled near the disputed islands, causing alarm in Tokyo. Sino-Japanese relations have deteriorated sharply since September when Japan bought the islands from a private owner, sparking anti-Japan protests across China.
