Military forces continue to monitor a safety zone just 75 miles from the of the Central African Republic capital Bangui.
The army, made up of forces from several nations, remain alert despite a promise by Seleka rebels that they would not advance any further.
Rebels have also said they are ready to negotiate peace talks with government officials.
The rebel advance was the latest in a series of revolts and coups in a country at the heart of one of Africa's 's most turbulent regions.
People living in the area say the rebellion forced them to flee-- but upon word of the peace talks, many are returning home.
