Microsoft unveils Xbox One

May 21 - Microsoft took the wraps its next-generation Xbox- featuring an exclusive ''Halo'' series produced by Steven Spielberg . Bobbi Rebell reports.

DON MATTRICK, PRESIDENT OF THE INTERACTIVE ENTERTAINMENT BUSINESS, MICROSOFT (ENGLISH) SAYING: "This is it, Xbox One" Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment head Don Mattrick took the wraps off its latest gaming console- its first in 8 years- at the company's campus near Seattle. The company is hoping it will become a hub for living room entertainment. The third generation Xbox interacts with users' televisions, responds to voice and gesture commands- and includes Skype video calling. Microsoft Senior VP Yusef Mehdi demo'd the device: SOUNDBITE: YUSEF MEHDI, MICROSOFT SENIOR VP (ENGLISH) SAYING: "Xbox game. Go to TV, Go to music. Watch TV." There will also be an exclusive to Xbox live action Halo television series- created with Steven Spielberg. SOUNDBITE: STEVEN SPIELBERG, (ENGLISH) SAYING: "The Halo universe is an amazing opportunity to be at that intersection where technology and myth-making meet to create something really ground breaking. And I'm incredibly excited about the great journey we're all on, the heroes, worlds and wonders that Halo will take us on." Xbox One will face heavy competition from the upcoming PlayStation 4 by Sony and the new Wii U from Nintendo. Console sales have been in decline for the last four years- gamers are shifting to online play- not to mention playing games on smartphones and tablets. *But consoles still dominate the gaming market- about 42 percent of the $65 billion dollar world market, according to Microsoft. Microsoft didn't give a specific release date- saying only that it would be released later this year.
