Three of the 30 people jailed after a Greenpeace protest on Arctic oil drilling, walked free on bail Thursday. Their story goes back to September 18th, when they were detained by the Russian Coast Guard, after their boat steered toward an oil platform and several activists tried to scale it. Despite 26 of them being granted bail, many in the Western world still consider their sentence too harsh. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon says he hopes the activists will receive - quote - "favorable and sympathetic" treatment. (SOUNDBITE) (English) UNITED NATIONS SECRETARY-GENERAL BAN KI-MOON SAYING: "...A very important, significant important part is now shared by a civil society, including Greenpeace. Therefore the government leaders should listen attentively what their aspirations and what their concerns are." Russian President Vladimir Putin has a different view (SOUNDBITE) (Russian) RUSSIAN PRESIDENT, VLADIMIR PUTIN, SAYING: "We all have to learn how to live (MAN LISTENING IN AUDIENCE) according to the law. (PUTIN ON CAMERA) and understand that anyone who will be allowed to break the law, or tear epaulets from policemen, hit them in the face, or something else, can face the same problems we had in 1917." Russia's stance has sparked international outrage by Greenpeace activists. In London, activists gathered outside Shell's headquarters, including fashion designer Vivienne Westwood: (SOUNDBITE) (English) PROTESTER AND FASHION DESIGNER DAME VIVIENNE WESTWOOD, SAYING: "... I try and do something about Putin, I'd love to go and meet him and speak to him...He's a monster." Greenpeace officials say the situation is far from over.
