In the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, no let up in sight to mass protests. For days now, tens of thousands have been protesting the government's sudden about face away from proposed integration into the European Union. On Wednesday, students tried to deliver a giant petition to President Viktor Yanukovich to demand this former Soviet republic form closer ties to the EU. (SOUNDBITE) (Ukrainian) PROTESTER AND ART STUDENT, SALANIA, SAYING: "It's the people's appeal to the president, to our tsar, where every person can write down his ideas about our revolution, our freedom and our choice. Every person has an opportunity to write down their thoughts on this piece of cloth." A quieter gathering outside this hospital in the city of Kharkivk, where a former Prime Minister is on a hunger strike in support of the protesters. They're supporters of Yulia Tymoshenko, jailed on a seven-year sentence for abuse of office, which Western observers say was politically motivated. Wednesday was her 53rd birthday. (SOUNDBITE) (Russian) UKRAINIAN PARLIAMENT DEPUTY, ARSEN AVAKOV, SAYING: "We are gathered here today just to support our leader, give her strength, because we are sure that victory will come and come soon. The question is whether every one of us is to do what he's to do, and God willing, we will live in a completely different country." More rallies in support of EU integration in the Western city of Lviv. President Yanukovich has promised to attend an EU summit on Friday, a move that appears designed to soothe some of the public outrage that doesn't seem to go away from Ukraine's streets.
