A suicide bomber blew himself up at this army checkpoint in northeast Lebanon. Security forces cordoned off the bomb site, examining the burnt out remains of a jeep. At least two soldiers and one civilian died in the explosion in Hermel. The army said the bomber was driving an SUV when he detonated his explosives after soldiers stopped him to search his vehicle. It's the latest in a string of attacks linked to Syria's civil war, a conflict that has increased sectarian tensions in Lebanon. This area is a stronghold of the Shiite Hezbollah group, that supports Syrian President Bashar Assad. Assad's forces are fighting against predominantly Sunni Muslim rebels. The militant Sunni group, the Nusra Front in Lebanon, says it carried out this latest attack. A retaliation for Hezbollah's involvement in the Syrian war.
