The fashion world mourns Oscar de la Renta in a private ceremony. The 82-year-old Dominican-born designer died of cancer last month. Politicians, fashion heavyweights and celebrities joined de la Renta's widow at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola in Manhattan to celebrate his life. Over the course of 50 years, De la Renta dressed socialites, starlets and American first ladies. Designers Diane von Furstenberg, Valentino and Vera Wang attended. So did former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who wore de la Renta gowns to her daughter Chelsea's wedding as well as an Inaugural Ball. His dresses were known for their detail and rich fabrics and have been a favorite on the red carpet. The designer was remembered by fans too, who were kept behind police barricades that stretched around the Park Avenue church. Oscar De la Renta died at his home in Connecticut on October 20th , surrounded by family and friends.
