ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION). STORY: U.S. President Barack Obama said, "Obviously Republicans had a good night," following midterm elections that put Congress under Republicans control. Tuesday's midterm elections gave Republicans control of both houses of Congress for the first time since elections in 2006, and the first time since Obama entered the White House nearly six years ago. He called a series of Democratic and Republican lawmakers on Tuesday night, the White House said. On Wednesday, he spoke with Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell, who is poised to become the Senate's new majority leader and with whom Obama has a frosty relationship. Obama plans to meet with congressional leaders from both parties at the White House on Friday to take stock of the new political landscape.
